CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent systems throughout Woodland Hills, with most complete ridge vent replacements running between $450 and $1,100 depending on roof length and existing decking condition. We keep CertainTeed’s standard 4-foot vent sections and matching end caps on our trucks, so most jobs are done in a single visit. The way homeowners usually find us starts with a ceiling stain near an exterior wall, or granules washing into the gutter after a heavy rain. They climb up to look, and the ridge vent is cracked, lifted, or missing a chunk from years of San Fernando Valley sun.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s ridge vent line splits into two main product families: the SHINGLE-VENT II and the ROLL-VENT, plus the newer APT ADJUSTABLE profile for higher-exhaust needs. The SHINGLE-VENT II is the one we pull off most Woodland Hills roofs installed between 2005 and 2020. It has a rigid internal baffle structure under a woven outer filter, and it comes in 4-foot sections with an external weather filter running down each side. The ROLL-VENT is a flexible continuous roll, which matters because it requires a wider saw cut at the ridge than the rigid sections do.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha every homeowner should know: a ROLL-VENT sits over a 2-inch slot cut in the roof decking, while the SHINGLE-VENT II typically vents over a 1½-inch to 2-inch slot depending on roof pitch and rafter depth. You cannot swap one for the other without recutting the deck. That’s not a corner to cut, and it’s part of why we never just “match a part” from a photo. We match the vent to the opening someone already cut. OEM CertainTeed pieces are what we install by default when we’re replacing a section. There are decent aftermarket equivalents, but the filter material on the genuine CertainTeed part holds up better in our UV exposure, so the savings usually are not worth it to us. If you’ve got a GAF or Owens Corning ridge vent on a different section of roof, we stock those parts too.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
Ridge vents fail quietly, and by the time you see a problem inside the house, it has usually been failing for a while. Here is what we run into most on Woodland Hills roofs:
- Granules accumulating in gutters near the ridge. The shingles layered over the vent take UV damage faster than the field of the roof. When the granular surface starts washing down, the seal strip under those cap shingles is also usually compromised.
- A cracked or curled exterior filter. CertainTeed’s woven filter stands up well, but after 12 to 15 years of Valley heat, it can turn brittle and split. Once air and rain can pass the filter, the vent is no longer doing its job.
- Attic feels hotter than it used to. If the ridge vent is blocked by blown-in insulation or a failed internal baffle, attic temps climb. Homeowners in the Warner Center corridor especially notice this in August.
- Water staining on the ceiling near an exterior wall, top floor. This is often the moment people call us. A lifted or cracked ridge vent can let wind-driven rain in, and the water follows the rafter line down to the wall.
- Missing or broken end caps. The plastic end caps on SHINGLE-VENT II sections snap over time. Birds know this. If you see nesting material around the ridge, the end cap is gone.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical single-story Woodland Hills home with a 30 to 40 foot ridge, a full CertainTeed ridge vent replacement runs between $450 and $1,100 installed. That includes removing the old vent and cap shingles, inspecting the decking underneath, replacing any rotted decking sections, installing the new vent with matching cap shingles, and cleaning up. Homes with longer ridges, two-story roof access, or steep pitches fall toward the top of that range.
A partial repair, where we’re swapping out a couple of broken vent sections and end caps, typically runs $250 to $450. You get a written price before we touch anything, and every repair includes our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right. Simple as that.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things you can check safely from a ladder. Look for cracked filters, missing end caps, and lifted cap shingles along the ridge. That’s about it. The moment you’re talking about walking the ridge line, pulling cap shingles, and cutting decking, I’d recommend calling someone who does this every week. A ridge vent sits at the highest point of your roof, where a fall is the most dangerous thing that can happen on a house. Water intrusion from a badly installed vent also travels far before it shows up, so what looks like a simple swap can turn into a decking inspection you did not plan for. If you want someone to take a look and give you a straight answer with a written price, call (341) 217-2677. We’ll tell you if it’s a repair, a replacement, or something you can leave alone for a bit.
How long does a CertainTeed ridge vent last in Woodland Hills?
A properly installed CertainTeed ridge vent typically lasts 12 to 18 years in our climate. The filter material is the first thing to go, and our summer UV exposure shortens that lifespan compared to cooler coastal areas. For an exact assessment of your vent, call (341) 217-2677 and we’ll take a look at no cost.

AfterCan you repair a ridge vent instead of replacing it?
Yes, in many cases we can replace individual sections, end caps, or cap shingles without redoing the entire ridge. The deciding factor is the condition of the surrounding decking and the filter on the remaining sections. If half the vent is brittle, a partial repair won’t hold. We’ll show you what’s there and give you a written price before any work starts.
How long does the installation take?
Most ridge vent replacements on Woodland Hills homes are completed in one visit, usually four to six hours depending on roof length and access. We schedule straightforward jobs with enough time to address any decking we find once the old vent comes off, so you don’t get a surprise second appointment.
Do you stock CertainTeed ridge vent parts?
We stock CertainTeed SHINGLE-VENT II 4-foot sections, ROLL-VENT in standard lengths, and matching end caps on our trucks. That means most replacements happen the day we arrive, not after a trip to a supply yard. Call (341) 217-2677 with your roof details and we’ll confirm we have what your job needs.
